What Is Wrong Or Peculiar With The Book Of Enoch?

Many get their viewpoint of the devils (ie. fallen angels) mating with the women in Genesis 6 from the book of Enoch. I believe it is false theology, passed on from a few hyper-dispensationalists who add to the Word of God. They get it usually from one or more of three sources: either from the book of Enoch itself (which is Apocryphal writings, which contradict the Word of God), from the corrupt text of the modern versions, or frankly from misreading Genesis 6:1-4; 2 Peter 2:4-6 and Jude 1:6-7. This article will deal with the first of these three, and Lord willing, I will add posts for the other two parts as well.

These points are taken from the translation by Richard Laurence, and come from Part 1 of The Book Of Enoch. (There are Six Parts altogether.)

Part 1.

Chapter 1:4 Refers to Mount Sinai, yet this is supposedly written by Enoch 665 years before the flood and approximately 1500 or so year before the giving of the Law by Moses. They would not even have known anything about the importance of this mountain prior to the flood. 

1:8 Refers to the Godhead, but that is not a term used or revealed until the New Testament, and it is a phrase we find in the Greek. The books of the Old Testament were written in Hebrew.

7:2 The angels became enamoured with the women.

7:3-8 Certain angels took vows to intermarry with the women.

7:4, 9 Refers to other angels not mentioned in the Bible. Their leader is Samyaza.

7:10 The angels had relations with the women.

7:10 The angels taught the women sorcery.

7:11-12 The women brought forth 450 foot tall (ie. 300 cubits) giants.

7:13-14 These giants ate birds and animals, etc. before God made the decree that mankind could do so after the flood. They also drank blood.

Chapter 8 The angels taught all forms of the war and the occult. Their leader is Azazyel, not Satan.

Chapter 9 The angels notice the corruption of the earth, not God.

9:3 Men cry out to the angels to do something.

9:10 The souls of the dead cry out.

Chapter 10 Before the flood, the angels are bound and God causes the offspring to fight and destroy one another.

10:15 Says the angels will be bound and then judged in 70 generations. (Enoch is the seventh generation from Adam, and then Luke 3:23-38 shows Jesus came 70 generations after that point in time. Before the New Testament, other than the prophecy of Daniel 9:24-26, there was no indication how long until the Messiah would come, let alone when He would judge the world and the fallen angels at the Great White Throne Judgement, yet "Enoch" somehow knows how many generations till the angels judgement. )

10:23 Refers to men keeping the sabbath before the giving of the sabbath. (It was never given to the world, but was given to the nation of Israel in Exodus 31:13-17.)

10:27 God says He will not send another flood on the earth, yet that is something He originally said AFTER the flood in Noah's day.

14:2 Enoch was given power to reprove the angels.

14:23 No angel could behold God in His glory, yet Enoch could.

14:24 No angel could approach God, but Enoch could.

15:1 Enoch is told to pray for angels, and it is stated angels were praying for men.

15:3 It is stated that the angels that fell have eternal life.

15:8 The dead offspring of the angels are called evil spirits (ie. ghosts!) - whereas the Bible teaches the evil spirits are the fallen angels (ie. devils) that rebelled with Lucifer/Satan.

15:9-10 It is stated these spirits will corrupt, oppress, cause lamentation upon the earth. Sounds like ghosts haunting mankind. “They come forth during the days of slaughter and destruction.”

The next few sections give made up glimpses of Heaven and Hell (prisons of the angels and sinners), which are nowhere seen in all of the Bible. Like reading Dante’s inferno.

19:1 It is stated that women led astray the angels of heaven.

Again, multiple angels are named (that are found nowhere in the Bible), and given unbiblical authority.

This is only Part 1 of the Six Parts. I may not include the other sections, but this gives you a glimpse of some of the false teachings in it. I know the next section teaches a works-based salvation, but I need to go through it again to make note of which specific verse does so.
