Do You See Jesus?

Here is an interesting word study.

Beheld - Strong’s #2300, “to look closely at, i.e. (by implication) perceive (literally or figuratively); by extension to visit: — behold, look (upon), see.”

The Complete Word Study Bible Dictionary defines it as “To behold, view attentively, contemplate, indicating the sense of a wondering consideration involving a careful and deliberate vision which interprets its object.”

This Greek word for beheld is used seven times in the Gospel of John:

1) John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

We beheld Jesus - looked at Him closely and saw what He truly was like. All grace and truth is found in Jesus.

2) John 1:32 And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him.

John the Baptist was carefully looking for and anticipating the coming of the Messiah. He was intently gazing at the Saviour and knew he had found Him. Now it was time to point Jesus out to others and send his disciples to follow Jesus.

3) John 1:38 Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and saith unto them, What seek ye? They said unto him, Rabbi, (which is to say, being interpreted, Master,) where dwellest thou?

It’s so amazing that our Lord knows everything about us. He knows us heart and soul - and He calls us to Him. He sees you!

4) John 4:35 Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.

Do you see the people around you, do you see the people God has placed in your life - actually see them, behold them, consider they are souls that Jesus died for, souls that will live forever either in Heaven of Hell. Do you see your neighbours, your loved ones, your friends and acquaintances.

5) John 6:5 When Jesus then lifted up his eyes, and saw a great company come unto him, he saith unto Philip, Whence shall we buy bread, that these may eat?

The Lord Jesus Christ didn’t just come to live among us and fulfill the Law - He came to die for the whole world. He saw those who needed Him, and He met that need. Do you see your need for the Saviour?

6) John 8:10 When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?

Jesus saw the repentant sinner standing alone before Him. He saw the souls for which He died - and He offered her mercy and forgiveness. He sees you too.

John 11:45 Then many of the Jews which came to Mary, and had seen the things which Jesus did, believed on him.

The people around Mary and Lazarus saw the miracle Jesus did, they saw her great faith, and saw Jesus as their Saviour too. How about you? Do you see the Lord Jesus Christ, the Saviour who saw your sinful state and died in your place, the Saviour who sees you?

1 John 1:1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;

1 John 4:14 And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.

Do you see Jesus?
