The Miracles Of Elijah And Elisha, Compared With Jesus

The Miracles Of Elijah And Elisha, Compared With Jesus For years I have been intrigued by the statement that Elisha performed twice as many miracles as Elijah because a double portion of God’s Spirit was upon Him.  2 Kings 2:9-11 And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me. And he said, Thou hast asked a hard thing: nevertheless, if thou see me when I am taken from thee, it shall be so unto thee; but if not, it shall not be so. And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven. I wondered if that was true, but some of the lists that I found were contradictory. Time to dig in deeper today. I found 7 miracles performed by Elijah and 14 by Elisha. Some have counted ot...

The Sevenfold Holy Spirit

The Sevenfold Holy Spirit 1) The name Holy Spirit is used seven times in the Bible: A. Psalm 51:11 Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me. B. Isaiah 63:10 But they rebelled, and vexed his holy Spirit : therefore he was turned to be their enemy, and he fought against them. C. Isaiah 63:11 Then he remembered the days of old, Moses, and his people, saying, Where is he that brought them up out of the sea with the shepherd of his flock? where is he that put his holy Spirit within him? D. Luke 11:13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him? E. Ephesians 1:13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, F. Ephesians 4:30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. ...

Jesus' Sevenfold Power And Authority

Jesus' Sevenfold Power And Authority There are primarily three ways that I read and study through the Gospels: 1) Read them one at a time, focussing on the context and what each passage has to say. 2) Read all four Gospels together, using a Harmony of the Gospels approach. That is where you have each major event side by side with the other Gospels, so you can glean what they all have in common, rounding out a full picture of each sermon, parable, healing, etc. That is a good tool for understanding all about a certain thing that happened or was said in the Gospels. In a lot of ways, we do this on a much smaller scale when we read a passage and then look at all the related cross references. 3) There is also another approach: Reading the Gospels side by side, but seeing where they differ, and making note of how each difference fits the overall approach of each Gospel writer, and what each writer is particularly emphasizing. For example, Matthew was written to the Jews to present their...
