I Am Poor And Needy Do you feel poor and needy this morning? Psalms 41:1 Blessed is he that considereth the poor: the LORD will deliver him in time of trouble. But I am poor and needy; yet the Lord thinketh upon me: thou art my help and my deliverer; make no tarrying, O my God. The interesting thing about these two verses (that are right next to each other in the Bible) is that the Lord God considers Himself blessed when He thinks about us! Also, your Heavenly Father IS thinking about you. There’s no reason to stay discouraged or worry when He is right there to talk with and give all your burdens and cares. I n The Day When I Cried Sometimes we think it is presumption to ask the Lord to answer a prayer today. Though if a prayer does seem more urgent, we may have asked the Lord to perfect (complete) that which concerneth us (from Psalm 138:8). If we have a need or a trouble, we may pray for it, expecting God to answer it in His own timing. But what happens if the need seems more urgent, if the trouble we are facing seems more dire, perhaps even time-sensitive? Is it presumptuous to pray, asking that the Lord answer our prayer today? For example, what if someone's life hung in the balance, or a need or a bill needed to be taken care of today, but it solely depended upon God providing for that need? First, some factors to consider, then some verses to look up on this theme: 1) Are we humble, trusting in the Lord? Just A Little Sparrow (Poem and Testimony) Something tonight reminded me of one poem I wrote for those involved in children's ministries. Rereading the testimony behind this poem was a blessing. Wrestling Until The Day Break Genesis 32:24 And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day. This is one of the passages that has had the most impact on me a little over one and 1/2 years ago, when I preached a series of messages on the life of this patriarch, Jacob. Genesis chapter 28 records his encounter with the Lord God, his moment of truly turning to the Lord in salvation - but chapter 32 records the point in his life where he surrendered himself to God's will, after a night of wrestling. When all his strength was removed, he realized who he was wrestling with and therefore would not let go, until God - the pre-incarnate Christ appearing as a Man - gave His blessing to Jacob (ie. the promise that he would be successful in his upcoming meeting with his brother, Esau). Living By The Word Of God One word I have come across within the last couple of months is the word rhema . It is one of the Greek words used in the New Testament and translated as " word " in our Bibles. The main word used for " word " (as in the Word of God) is logos , and is generally a reference to all of the Bible - whereas rhema refers to a specific portion of the Scriptures. When you read these two definitions of this term that are quoted below and see its usage in various New Testament passages, you will see the important distinction that is being made by using this word. (It was these two articles that first introduced me to the meaning of this word - and challenged me to dig a little deeper.) Mustard Seeds And Mountains Matthew 17:19-21 Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out? And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting. As a younger believer I remember reading passages like the one above and thinking that if I only believed strong enough, I could move mountains. I did not have a clue that the Lord here wasn't referring to literal mountains - and I do remember praying once or twice for some small mountains to just move a little bit... Nothing happened. Then in studying out the Bible and church history, I realized no one in the history of the world ever moved a literal mountain by faith - so what exactly did that verse mean? In the context of prayer and moving mountains, ...
