Do Your Garments Smell Of Lebanon?

(This was written a year ago for one of my friends, but I had not posted it until now. I added a couple of more verses now that fit the theme.)

When I was praying for you, I was thinking of something I shared in our study last night:

Song of Songs 4:16 Awake, O north wind; and come, thou south; blow upon my garden, that the spices thereof may flow out. Let my beloved come into his garden, and eat his pleasant fruits.

We are to give our Lord the pleasant fruits, the best of our garden, of our lives. It is a really good exhortation - but what if you are struggling? Can you still give Him your best?

He is the one that works through you to produce fruit in you.

Galatians 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

Therefore the key is to give Jesus yourself, your life, your heart. He will give you the victory and produce the fruit in and through you that He desires.

Proverbs 23:26 My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways.

When you get sidetracked, don’t beat yourself up. Choose to put your eyes back on the Lord.

Hebrews 12:1-2 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Acts 4:13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.

What do your garments smell like today? Like you spent time in the presence of God, like you have been with Jesus?

Song of Songs 4:11 Thy lips, O my spouse, drop as the honeycomb: honey and milk are under thy tongue; and the smell of thy garments is like the smell of Lebanon.

Honeycomb, honey and milk are symbols for the Word of God.

… the smell of thy garments is like the smell of Lebanon.

The cedars of Lebanon are what the temple - the dwelling place of God among His people - was made of. These particular cedars were an aromatic, fragrant wood; they did not rot; they were durable. That is why they were used to build Solomon’s temple.

Think of Esau. His garments smelled of the fields and the forests he spent time in, where he dwelt day by day as he was out hunting game.

Genesis 27:27-28 And he came near, and kissed him: and he smelled the smell of his raiment, and blessed him, and said, See, the smell of my son is as the smell of a field which the LORD hath blessed: Therefore God give thee of the dew of heaven, and the fatness of the earth, and plenty of corn and wine:

Do your garments symbolically smell of the temple, where the presence of God dwelt among His people? Does your conversation smell of the Saviour?

2 Corinthians 2:15 For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish:

Song of Songs 1:3 Because of the savour of thy good ointments thy name is as ointment poured forth, therefore do the virgins love thee.
