Give Your Burdens To The Lord
Give your burdens, your cares, your struggles to the Lord and let Him hold you up. Remember, you are always on His heart and being carried on His shoulders.
Matthew 11:28-30 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
1 Peter 5:7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
The word casting means “to throw upon.”
Psalms 55:22 Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.
You don’t have to carry that weight, that burden. Throw it upon the Lord. If you can’t even do that, roll it upon Jesus, drop it at His feet. Whatever, however, just give it to Him.
Exodus 28:9-12 And thou shalt take two onyx stones, and grave on them the names of the children of Israel: Six of their names on one stone, and the other six names of the rest on the other stone, according to their birth. With the work of an engraver in stone, like the engravings of a signet, shalt thou engrave the two stones with the names of the children of Israel: thou shalt make them to be set in ouches of gold. And thou shalt put the two stones upon the shoulders of the ephod for stones of memorial unto the children of Israel: and Aaron shall bear their names before the LORD upon his two shoulders for a memorial.
Exodus 28:21, 29-30 And the stones shall be with the names of the children of Israel, twelve, according to their names, like the engravings of a signet; every one with his name shall they be according to the twelve tribes… And Aaron shall bear the names of the children of Israel in the breastplate of judgment upon his heart, when he goeth in unto the holy place, for a memorial before the LORD continually. And thou shalt put in the breastplate of judgment the Urim and the Thummim; and they shall be upon Aaron's heart, when he goeth in before the LORD: and Aaron shall bear the judgment of the children of Israel upon his heart before the LORD continually.
The stones on the breastplate have the names of God’s people written on them. The high priest of Israel, literally carried the names of the tribes of Israel on his shoulders and over his heart. The Lord Jesus Christ is our Great High Priest. You are always on His heart and carried forever on His shoulders, engraven eternally on His hands. He cannot forget about you. That means His mercy and compassion are always there, available - His grace and strength is there for the asking.
Hebrews 4:14-16 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
Isaiah 49:15-16 Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee. Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me.
He also saved you - knowing ahead of time every struggle you would give into, every victory you would win. He knows everything about you - and He still loves you. He still offers His grace, His mercy, and His forgiveness to you. He didn’t die for the one who had it all together - but for those who see their need for Him.
This statement is repeated in Matthew, Mark and Luke. Repetition shows how important something is, restating it for emphasis.
Matthew 9:12-13 But when Jesus heard that, he said unto them, They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick. But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
Mark 2:17 When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
Luke 5:31-32 And Jesus answering said unto them, They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
Even the lost world knew Jesus was a friend of sinners. If all you got going for yourself is that you are like Paul and feel yourself to be the chief of sinners - what does Jesus say to that?
Matthew 11:19 The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children.
This is what Spurgeon often says in his preaching: how do I know the promise is for me? Are you the person the promise describes? Then it is for you.
John 6:35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
Are you hungry or thirsty?
2 Corinthians 12:9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
Are you weak?
Matthew 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Are you heavy laden with sin - overwhelmed, burdened, struggling under the weight of it?
Remember the definition for casting in 1 Peter 5:7. Then cast your cares upon Jesus. Follow these instructions.
Psalms 145:14 The LORD upholdeth all that fall, and raiseth up all those that be bowed down.
It doesn’t say He holds up those who never fall. It says He upholdeth (ongoing) all those that fall.
Strong’s definition for upholdeth here means: “to prop (literally or figuratively); reflexively, to lean upon or take hold of (in a favorable or unfavorable sense): — bear up, establish, (up-)hold, lay, lean, lie hard, put, rest self, set self, stand fast, stay (self), sustain.”
Keep leaning on the Lord.
